Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.
Week 21 - Love and Friendship
John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
Friendship Art
Pick a collaborative art project that will represent your unique community of friends.
Lines of True Love
Compose a poem that shares the love of Christ. Example: Roses are red / Violets are blue / Jesus said / He loves you!
Love Language Survey
Survey the people in your community (family, friends, church brothers and sisters) and find out their love languages. Then for this year’s Valentine’s Day find a way to show them love in their top language. If you are going to have a Valentine’s Day party, plan it so that each of the five love languages are expressed in some way.
Valentine’s Day Box
Challenge: Design the tallest mailbox you can to hold as much weight as possible. Demonstrate your tower's ability in a skit about a young child who is trying to show God’s love to a grumpy neighbor by placing valentines in their mailbox.
Picture Pal
A refugee family just moved into my neighborhood. They have never lived in the United States before and they don’t speak any English. Everything is new to them. They could use picture directions for different activities like taking out the garbage, shopping at the closest grocery store, and when and how to call emergency numbers. Be a friend and design some pictures!
Marriage Gifts
Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. You are invited to a marriage ceremony. You observe the couple exchanging gifts. Illustrate or make replicas of the gifts. It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
