Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.

Week 3 - Forgiveness

Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Conflict Cartoon (Slides)

Make a cartoon that tells a real or fictional story about a type of conflict you’ve experienced and how it was or could have been resolved.

  1. List the types of relational conflicts you experience regularly

  2. Brainstorm/reflect on ways those conflicts get resolved

  3. Write a factual or fictional story about conflict

  4. Produce a book, video or artwork for your story

The Impossible Stain (Slides)

Challenge: Using a difficult stain and a stain removal technique, demonstrate an object lesson that illustrates God’s forgiveness.

Materials: Staining material and stain removal material(s). Example: Permanent marker, whiteboard, and dry erase marker.

Still Broken

I threw a ball inside even though I know that’s against the rules and I broke a vase that is really meaningful to my mom. I know she will forgive me, but she will still be really sad. I want to make it up to her a little if I can. Instead of throwing the vase shards away, is there something special I can do or make with it?

Solution Criteria

  • Uses all or most pieces of vase

  • New creation is meaningful

  • Picture or drawing of solution

How interesting!

Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. You encounter an unfamiliar plant. Write an encyclopedia entry for this plant that includes a picture, where you found it, how it smells and how it feels. It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
