Students will learn about Ancient, American, and Modern History, each year focusing on one of these areas at a developmentally appropriate level. Students learn about historical figures and events through engaging stories and memorable activities. This ensures that they are able to fully understand and apply the information rather than just memorizing it. Students are taught to think critically about the content, bringing it alive and equipping them to perform well on college level exams.

History
Similar to History, students will learn about Ancient, American, and Modern Literature, each year focusing on one of these areas at a developmentally appropriate level. Students will read, analyze and interpret classic literature from each place and era. Students are also taught to write their own stories and novels, preparing them for college level writing and composition.
Literature
Math-U-See, the curriculum used by Portals, uses a mastery approach, allowing students to build a strong foundation of fundamental concepts and skills before moving on. Concepts build on one another and are applied and reviewed to broaden the student’s mathematical understanding. Students are also using integrated manipulatives to allow learners to see what they are calculating, which research shows to help increase retention and deepen understanding. Successful completion of these Math courses will prepare any student to take a college level examination.
Math
Berean Builders, the high school Science curriculum used by Portals, covers everything a student would see in a university-level course on the subject of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. If your student is confident about what they learned, they can take the CLEP tests. If they score well enough, they can “test out” of university-level science courses.
