Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.
Week 14 - Joy
1 Thes. 1:6 and you yourselves became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message with joy from the Holy Spirit.
Joy to the World
Bring joy to someone living in another part of the world by participating in a ministry like Operation Christmas Child and bring joy to those around you by planning and hosting a Christmas party (Challenge: you must hand-make all your decorations, foods and prizes).Â
Joy Toy
Challenge:Â Design and create a model or prototype of a robot that can make sad people smile.Â
Materials:Â Any materials available to you
Time:Â 45 minutes
Retrieve and Rejoice
Practice some coding and retrieve the gifts from the Grinch! Then make your own Christmas game using Scratch.
You’ve Got a Friend in Me
There are a lot of lonely people out there. Reach out to someone you haven’t seen in a while or invite someone new to your community to do something with you.Â
Celebration Time Come On!
Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. The natives are having some sort of celebration for one of the young women. Write a diary entry that includes what appears to be the purpose of the celebration, what kind of food is eaten, what performances (dances, music, stories) are given, what clothes are worn, and any other unique activities are done to celebrate. It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
