Portals Projects - Share Hope!

Updated: Dec 15, 2023

Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.

Week 12 - Hope

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Home for the Holidays

The holidays are often spent gathering with friends and family in a home. Not everyone has a home to celebrate in through. Pick and complete one of the following projects:

  1. Play Strong Community Bingo and find out if your community has what it takes to provide a good Habitat for Humanity is an organization that works to find and create affordable homes for people.

  2. Design a tiny home as tiny houses are a growing solution being tried to combat chronic homelessness.

  3. Make a presentation that shows all of the fun things there are to do in your hometown for the holidays for someone new to the area.

  4. Invite someone who doesn’t have a home for the holidays to spend Christmas with you. (Examples: College student, single person, refugee family)

Decoration Dash

Challenge: Using only general household materials (no inherent decorative items or materials) and with limited time, make as many Christmas decorations as you can.

Time: 30 minutes minus 2 minutes for every member of your group

Keep Christ in CHRISTmas (Hope Project CHRISTmas)

An organization in New Zealand is committed to keeping Christ visible by sharing the nativity story in culturally relevant ways and public displays. How can you follow their example and bring the hope of Christ to your community?

Unique Landmark

Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. You are wandering around when you come across an interesting geological feature that you have never seen before. It reminds you of your mission and renews your hope that you can complete it. Create a physical model of the unique landmark. It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
