Welcome to Portals Projects! Each week we share projects that foster community building, creative thinking, problem-solving and character development. Invite your student(s) to pick a project that interests them to work on for a day or a week. Encourage them to share their plans, products or performances with the Portals community so we can all celebrate and grow together.
Week 20 - Generosity
1 Timothy 6:18-19 Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share, storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of what is truly life.
Charity Chart
Is your community generous? Make a colorful chart that answers all of the following questions about the charities in your community: Who do they serve? What services do they offer? What kinds of donations do they take? How many people have they helped? What problems do they face?
Mockumentary
Pick an inanimate object and pretend it is alive and make an entertaining documentary about its “life” and how it can be used for a charitable purpose. Example: The Majestic Plastic Bag - A Mockumentary
Charity Marshmallow Catapult (Destination Imagination)
Challenge: Use your creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills to build a catapult and knock down a wall of stacked “snowmen” (representing problems of this world) using marshmallows (representing charities).
No Gold to Give
I don’t have any money. What are other ways I can be generous?
Transport
Imagine you are an explorer and you have discovered a new land. After staying with some friendly natives, you and your fellow explorers must continue on your journey. The natives generously give you transportation. Build a model, make a flipbook or use coding to show what kind of transportation is used in this new land. It can be as realistic or fantastical as you want.
